Treasurer

Property taxes for 2023 Payable 2024 (Fall) were due on November 12th, 2024. Penalties have been applied to all parcels that have not been paid. These penalties are NOT reflected online. Prior to making a payment, please contact the Treasurer's Office directly.

Unpaid property taxes from 2022 payable 2023 have been reported to American Financial Credit Services. Please follow the instructions on mailed correspondence to resolve payment. Contact our office if you have any questions or concerns.

Tax Bills

Tax bills are sent out once a year in April. Taxes are always due in two installments. These due dates are on May 10 and November 10 unless they fall on a weekend or holiday. If this occurs, the tax due date will be the next business day.
Keep an eye out for your bill to come in the mail every April. If you do not receive a tax bill by the end of April, call our office before the due date and request a new tax bill. Failure to receive a tax statement does not relieve the taxpayer of the responsibility for payment and penalties when delinquent. If payment is made after the tax due dates, contact the Treasurer’s at Office at (812) 349-7333 for payment including penalty.

Tax Sale Courtesy Letters

Tax sale courtesy letters are typically sent every February. The letters are meant to notify individuals that their property is eligible to be certified into the October tax sale. For more information about paying a parcel out of tax sale before certification, please click here .

Tax Sale Certification

Certified tax sale notifications are typically sent in early September. For more information about paying a parcel out of tax sale after certification, please click here .

Employee Garnishments

Employment garnishments are sent to government employees who are delinquent on property taxes. We request that all employers give employees at least 30 days to resolve and delinquencies before garnishment begins. The amount to be garnished from each employee is determined by the employer.

Demand Notices

Demand notices are sent every August. These are meant to notify individuals of personal property delinquencies before the amounts are sent to Judgment. It is best to pay a delinquency before the end of October. Additional fees and interest will be added if the demand is sent to judgment.

American Financial Credit Services (AFCS)

American Financial Credit Services (AFCS) is a collection agency that helps the county collect unpaid personal property tax judgments. Once a judgment has been sent to them, it must be paid through their office.

Surplus

Surplus letters are typically sent every January/July. If you receive a surplus letter, you may have overpaid property taxes. You will need to provide proof of payment to the Auditor if you believe that the overpayment is yours. Additional information may be found here .

Property owners are responsible for seeing that their taxes are paid on time to avoid penalty. Failure to receive a tax statement does not relieve the taxpayer of the responsibility for payment and penalties when delinquent.

Payment Options

Property taxes can be paid by cash, check, cashier's check, money order, credit card, debit card, or e-check. For more information, click here .

NOTE: Online and phone payments may take 2-5 business days to process in our office. Payments are counted when we receive them in office, NOT when the transaction is started. Please allow for this processing time when making a payment.

Out of the Country: Use either the online or phone system to pay by Credit Card, Debit Card, or E-Check. Taxes can be viewed and paid online. Failure to receive a tax statement by mail does not relieve the taxpayer of the responsibility for the tax payment and/or penalties when delinquent.

Escrow Accounts

A tax bill watermarked with "IN ESCROW" indicates a lender has requested your billing. However, if you are responsible for payment of these taxes, please use that bill. No additional billings will be mailed.

Buying or Selling a Home

Penalties / Partial Payments

According to Indiana Code 6-1.1-37-10 , any unpaid balances after the due dates are assessed a penalty. If there are no prior delinquencies on the parcel, a 5% penalty will be added if paid in full within 30 calendar days after the installment due dates. An additional 5% penalty will be added on the 31st day after the installment due dates for any unpaid balances. If there are prior delinquent amounts due on that parcel as of the due date, a 10% penalty will be added on the day after the installment due date.

Mailed payments are considered on time when postmarked by the US Post Office by the installment due dates. Payments post marked after the property tax due dates will receive penalties as described in the state code listed above.

The Treasurer’s Office accepts partial payments for taxes in any amount and as frequently as the taxpayer wants to make a partial payment. However, any unpaid amounts remaining as of the due date will be assessed penalties as described above.

While we do not charge a fee for signing and sealing the alcohol permit, we do require all taxes to be current. Please contact the Treasurer's Office for more information.

  1. Escrow/Mortgage Question:
    Q: I received a bill, and my mortgage company is supposed to pay
    A: The state has mandated that we send tax bills for all parcels, even those in escrow. If your bill has an “IN ESCROW” watermark across the bill, a mortgage company has requested your bill. If you have any doubts that your mortgage company will pay on your behalf, please contact your mortgage company directly.
