Construction Projects- October 1, 2024
- Karst Farm Park Trail Extension- This project will extend pedestrian path/sidewalks from Liberty Drive, beginning at SR 45, traveling north to Constitution, west on Constitution to Curry Pike and west to the Karst Trailhead at the railroad crossing at Gifford Road. Bids were opened on January 18, 2024 and the low bidder was Crider and Crider. The trail is close to completion. There will be two traffic signals installed over the next month to finish the project. One signal will be at Constitution and Liberty Drive and the other signal will be installed at Curry Pike and Constitution Avenue.
- Community Crossings Grant Projects - Monroe County was awarded the 1.5 million for paving projects through INDOT in 2024. Paving is wrapping up for the season and we will begin our 2025 paving list and our submittal for the January call of the CCMG program.
- Stipp Road/Moores Creek Road Project- These projects are listed in the Long Range Stormwater Plan, Items #4 and #16. The Moores Creek Road project is under construction and the contract was awarded to Milestone Contractors. The completion for this project is November 2024. Moores Creek Road will be paved from Snoddy to the project limits also with the project. Stipp Road has a bid opening scheduled for October 20, 2024.
- Vernal Pike Trail - Staff has been working with Redevelopment Commission for the funding of this project.
- Baby Creek Stormwater Project - This project is listed in the Long Range Stormwater Plan, Item #3. It is the goal to replace one culvert in 2025.
- Vernal Pike Connector Road - The project was awarded to Force Construction on February 16, 2024 and is under construction. The construction will last 18-24 months and will also add a traffic signal at Vernal Pike and Sunrise Greetings Court.
- Rockport Road, Bridge #308 - This bridge replacement project is under design. Right-of-way acquisition will begin this fall. Letting date is July 9, 2025.
- Baby Creek Road, Bridge #629 - Awarded funding for construction in 2027. Project is currently under the design phase.
- Dillman Road, Bridge #83 - Monroe County was awarded $2.3 million for the bridge replacement. Construction is in FY2027. The existing steel truss bridge will be used on a future trail.
- That Road, Bridge #79 - Design is complete on this project. The bridge will be replaced when funding allows.
- Rhorer Road, Bridge #75 - The design is complete on this bridge replacement with anticipated construction in 2025. Right-of-way has been completed.
- Mt. Tabor Road, Bridge #13- The project is under design with right-of-way acquisition to begin fall 2024/spring 2025.
- Pedestrian Improvement Project - The project is funded by HSIP funds within the MPO. There are seven locations at trail crossings that will have flashing beacons installed. The project is being let in May 2024 with a 2024 construction season.
- Old SR 37 South and Dillman Road Intersection Improvement - Funds have been allocated through the MPO to begin design in 2026 with a 2028 construction season. The project is currently planned to installing a round-about at this intersection to improve sight distance or overall safety improvement.
- Fullerton Pike, Phase III- The project has been awarded to Milestone Contractors. Construction will began on April 9, 2024 and will begin on the west end at Rockport Road. Completion of the project is expected in August 2025. The project consists of a 525' bridge and roadway connection with the installation of a roundabout at Bachelor Drive and Gordon Pike.
- Business 37 North, Bridge #913 Replacement- Monroe County was awarded the project in February 2025. Construction is currently scheduled for FY 2029 or 2030. Monroe County has chosen USI Consultants for the design of the project. The firm was chosen following all federal aid guidelines with INDOT.
